When I get my hands on a beautiful package of organic free-range bacon, I don’t waste any part of it, not even the rendered fat. One of my favorite ways to use bacon fat is to make bacon butter — and after this recipe I’m sure it will become a favorite of yours too!
Bacon-butter can be used anywhere you use regular butter and it will give your recipes that extra touch of salt and amazing depth of flavor. Making stove top popcorn is one of the best excuses to indulge in real butter, so incorporating bacon fat here was a natural next step. Hope you enjoy…
Honey Bacon-Butter Popcorn with Crushed Kale Chips
- 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 tablespoon organic rendered bacon fat
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1-2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 1/4 cup crushed kale chips
In a stove-top popcorn maker, combine a splash of olive oil and the popcorn kernels over medium heat. Stir until all kernels have popped and empty into a large bowl. In a small saucepan over low heat, add the bacon fat, butter and honey and cook until all the ingredients are melted and well combined. Stir in the paprika and remove from heat. Slowly pour the butter mixture over the popcorn, tossing constantly. Top with garlic salt and crushed kale chips and toss to thoroughly coat. Serve immediately!
