Making your own rosewater is a fast and easy process and an excellent way to further utilize your fresh cut flowers once they start wilting. My mom has two beautiful rose bushes in her backyard, so I never have a shortage of petals to work with over the summer!
Once you have your homemade rosewater, add it to anything from baked goods to bath and body products…you’d be surprised how versatile it is around the house.
Homemade Organic Rosewater
- 1 part organic or homegrown rose petals
- 1 part filtered water
Gently rinse the petals then place in a pot with the filtered water. Set over high heat and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover. Boil covered for 5 minutes or until the petals are colorless. Remove from heat and set aside to completely cool. Strain out the petals using a fine mesh filter and pour the rosewater into a resealable container.
I used my rosewater to make an amazing bedtime mist that I spritz on my face, hands and chest before bed. Simply add three ounces of rosewater to a spray-bottle along with 5 drops each of eucalyptus, spearmint, lavender and chamomile oil. Shake, mist and enjoy!
