I drink matcha tea pretty regularly, but lately I’ve been experimenting with different and more interesting ways to enjoy it in my diet; adding it to baking, stirring it into smoothies and even using a pinch to top my yogurt in the morning. All great, but I have to say that my absolute favorite way to enjoy matcha tea is to whip it into a latte.
Plus, I will take any excuse to use the milk steamer on my espresso machine…follow along to make the perfect, pillowy matcha latte.
Matcha Green Tea Latte with Agave Syrup
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 1 drop pure vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 teaspoon organic agave syrup
- 1/2 cup milk
Combine the hot water and matcha powder and vigorously stir with a bamboo matcha whisk until no lumps remain. Stir in the vanilla and agave syrup. Steam and froth the milk with the steamer attachment on your espresso machine (or over the stove with a whisk). Gently pour the milk into the matcha tea, stir, top with foam and enjoy!
Feel free to adjust this to taste; if you like a stronger and more earthy tea, use more matcha. If you’re new to matcha and like it a little less grassy, add more water and agave! I’m a sucker for sweetness, so I often up the syrup content or pair is with something deliciously sweet…like these amazing fresh guavas!
