Since experimenting with my recipe for Kefir and Turmeric Roasted Chicken, I’ve been reading up more and more on the benefits of turmeric. While I appreciate the unique flavor, I’ve had a difficult time incorporating it into my diet with any regularly…it’s not exactly a spice you can just throw in any dish.
Enter the matcha latte; matcha has a wonderful earthy flavor that works so well when paired with a bold spice like turmeric. Add a dash of sweetened milk to cut the intensity and you’re in for one delicious and nutrient packed latte…
Turmeric and Matcha Green Tea Latte with Coconut Sugar
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon coconut sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
Combine the hot water, matcha and turmeric powder and vigorously stir with a bamboo matcha whisk until no lumps remain. Stir in the coconut sugar, add more to taste if desired. Steam and froth the milk with the steamer attachment on your espresso machine (or over the stove with a whisk). Gently pour the milk into the matcha tea, stir and top with the desired amount of foam!
To make this process even easier, I pre-make a blend of turmeric and matcha that I can just scoop out of the container and add to hot water. The blend I use is 1 part matcha green tea, 1 part finely ground coconut sugar and 1/2 part powdered turmeric. Simply mix everything together and store in a resalable container. Add 1-2 teaspoons of the mix to your cup of water or milk and enjoy!
